AIM Press Release
15 April 2010
The new Learning and Development Centre for the Australian Institute of Management Western Australia (AIM WA) has been awarded a 6 Star Green Star Education Design V1 certified rating.
AIM WA’s Executive Director Patrick Cullen was presented with the award at the recent Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) Summit. This is the highest Green Star rating possible, representing ‘world leadership’ in sustainable building design.
Patrick Cullen said “The Institute is thrilled to be awarded the Green Star rating. It is the first 6 Star educational building in WA and the third highest sustainability design rating in any building in Australia. This is an impressive achievement and a great credit to everyone involved in the project.”
“The building not only significantly increases the Institute’s capacity to offer more learning and development initiatives in the market place, but also recognises our commitment to sustainable development including the management of people, resources, and the environment. The new Learning and Development Centre will also enable the Institute to address the growing need for training and development for managers and leaders at all levels in WA.”
The new Learning Centre will be opened in the next three months. It is a 1400m2, three storey building and its design features include;
- Orientation to optimise environmental performance
- Generous, flexible learning areas and associated break-out spaces which take advantage of bushland and city views
- The use of photovoltaic cells as a significant source of power generation
- Low energy heating and air conditioning system
- Water recycling
- Use of sustainable materials.
All of these features give the building the capacity to be carbon positive.
