Robert Browning is currently Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Austal Limited, a world leader in the design and construction of aluminium commercial and defence vessels.
Prior to assuming the role of CEO of Austal Limited, Mr. Browning served as President and CEO of Austal USA from August 2007. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Austal Limited for 3 ½ years.
From 2001 to 2007, Mr. Browning was CEO of Alinta Limited, which as an Australian-listed owner and operator of energy infrastructure, grew during Mr. Browning's 6 1/2 year tenure in market capitalization from AUD$320M to over AUD$7.4B, delivering to shareholders during that period a greater than 700% return on their investment.
Mr. Browning has held a variety of leadership roles for 16 years in the energy infrastructure industry and previously 16 years with Coca-Cola.
Mr. Browning holds a BS from San Diego State University, a MBA from the University of Phoenix and a MS in International Business Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Sloan School of Management.
Austal’s commercial shipbuilding business is inherently unpredictable, creating volatility in earnings and associated shareholder value. The United States offers a new geographic market previously untapped by Austal. The presentation will discuss why Austal sought to enter a new market on the opposite side of the world, how it went about establishing itself in the U.S., and what has been accomplished to-date.
