    Workplace Leadership

Responsible leadership is a prerequisite for high performing teams. This program takes participants through the essential elements of being a leader in a workplace environment.

In particular, it focuses on creating an understanding of the role of the leader in a modern organisation.

In addition to contributing to the organisation’s leadership profile, participants will also explore the aspects of leadership that relate to leading teams and individuals. The key ingredient here is flexibility and the capacity to apply a range of leadership styles to suit each situation. This program not only builds the awareness of this need but also begins the skill building process that helps create flexibility in leadership. Based around in-depth case studies, participants will be encouraged to identify leadership principles and how they can be applied in their work environment.

    Advanced Management Program

For more than 40 years, the AIM WA+UWA Business School Executive Education’s Advanced Management Program (AMP) has been a trusted pathway for professionals and managers wanting to take the next step in executive leadership. The AMP is designed to challenge and empower leaders to obtain a deeper understanding of their leadership capabilities and management expertise, as they increasingly contribute to the senior levels of their organisations. However, as busy leaders and managers we do not often get the chance to take a look from a different perspective at what we do each day and why we do it.

Participants on this week-long intensive residential program access the best leading management models, frameworks and theories with tailored leadership skills development.   The AMP complements senior management career planning for future leaders by offering tailored management skills development. It also offers the best of applied leadership and management theory found in the world’s most respected executive MBA programs. Leaders are encouraged to challenge their perspectives of organisation’s strategy and operations, augmented by insights into their individual leadership values and capabilities. The AMP encourages participants to release themselves from traditional work practices in order to step back and integrate broader insights into new concepts and management challenges.

The AMP is facilitated by a globally respected team of faculty and commercial presenters from The University of Western Australia Business School. Learning is achieved through interactive teaching, guided discussion, case study analysis, syndicate projects, peer review and personal coaching methodologies. Cutting edge case examples are used from the West Australia, Australian and global economies, including from leading global business schools.

Condensed from its origins in business school based, accredited Executive MBA programs, the AMP includes the basic building blocks of management theory strategic and financial management; managing human capital; organisational performance; negotiation skills; and innovation, change and marketing management. “Best of Breed” chief executive guest speakers present on a range of topics including leadership, sustainability, growth and talent retention and attraction.

Complementing the management skills content in the program is a series of presentations, experiential activities and individual coaching designed to facilitate self-reflection and increase an individual’s managerial effectiveness and leadership potential. Participants undertake 360o assessment prior to the program, receive individualised executive coaching, examine their ability to work in teams and cross cultural situations, examine their leadership skills, and their ability to achieve peak performance and work life balance.

Prevention and Management of Workplace Bullying

Workplace bullying can have a profound effect on all aspects of a person’s health as well as their work and family life. It also has significant flow-on effects for the community and the economy.

Negative interactions between and amongst employees can and do lead to “toxic” workplace cultures if allowed to escalate. Employees’ expectations of their senior managers are that they should know how to deal appropriately with issues around workplace bullying, harassment and discrimination – that management should intervene before good people leave.

This program aims to highlight what can go wrong – despite good intentions – when managers fail to act, and/or fail to act appropriately in response to workplace bullying.

    Negotiation in Practice

Effective negotiation involves developing a process that leads to constructive outcomes. Not only must you understand the dynamics of the process, you must also be aware of your impact. The tone of your voice, your body language, and how you phrase what you say all have a significant impact on the process and outcome of any negotiation. Gaining the process skills to negotiate, coupled with an understanding of your personal impact, allows you to take your negotiations to another level.

This program combines the negotiation and research expertise of Professor Ray Fells from the UWA Business School with the coaching and role playing expertise of The Experience Lab: a team of professional facilitators and improvisation actors. By employing a distinctive experiential approach, participants will gain practical insight into how to manage their negotiations more effectively and avoid the main pitfalls. This knowledge will be brought to life through case studies, simulations, role plays and coaching. The program will culminate in a substantial negotiation simulation in which The Experience Lab team will challenge, guide and coach the participants to maximise the development and implementation of their practical skills.

Exceptional program design incorporating diverse and exciting learning approaches, fully residential format, and an intensive focus on performance improvement is coupled with skilled facilitators and coaches. This approach assures the fast-track development of your future leaders.

Participants can expect to be challenged and inspired, their organisations can expect new and applied insight into what it takes to perform at the highest level.
